Why do our soaps have animal names?

· · Comments

Five years ago, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't know anything about palm oil. Where it came from, or how it was in the majority of things we used and consumed on a daily basis. So you might guess that the idea for Our Planet Soap company started with learning that massive deforestation and numerous species of animals were being driven to extinction by our insatiable demand for this palm oil. I decided right there and then that making the best healthy palm-free soap bars I could produce, and naming them after endangered animals, could tackle a number of issues all at once.

They say that changing a habit requires daily adherence to a new routine, and maybe showering with a healthy "animal" soap bar a few minutes a day would get you thinking about making better overall decisions that day for you and the planet. Plus we could generate some funds to support animal conservation at the same time! And bring consumer attention to moving toward a better, palm-free, chemical-free, plastic-free, sustainable lifestyle.

So not to lay any guilt on you, but when you purchase our Polar Bear or Whale Soap bar, along with getting a truly great bar of soap, you'll know that at the end of the year, we will be donating 10% of the net profit from that soap bar to that animal's conservation efforts. We will share those results, and going forward, getting more customer input as to where those donations should go!

To learn more about the plight of endangered animals, check out each soap bar's product description, and related links. Going forward, we'll be blogging about these subjects, adding some interviews with animal conservationists, as well as talking about chemical free personal care. 'Cause we do make great soap, after all! Don't forget to sign up for our email list to get blog updates.
